New Nurture and Break out Room For Schools

We get asked a lot from schools about their need and requirement for an outdoor breakout or nurture room where teachers can take children for one-to-one sessions (or a couple of students) away from the melee of the school day and busyness of the main school building. These sessions are typically designed for children who may need extra tuition and they are meant to be a safe space for a free-flow conversation where children can also develop their mental and social skills. This in turn builds their confidence and self-esteem and these type of nurture rooms or break out buildings seem to be ever more popular in schools as they are sometimes desperately required if there is no existing space or rooms available in the main school building.

We have a range of buildings or outdoor classrooms and pods which we already supply for these type of applications but it was clear from many discussions with schools that they want the following:

  1. Needs to be somewhere outside so that it is completely separate from the main school ebb and flow
  2. Must be of a size which can cater for a teacher and a couple of students and room enough for chairs, benches and maybe bean bags
  3. Has to be somewhere “special” where children want to go and this is an important factor to bear in mind with design – the word “quirky” appears quite a lot
  4. In instances where it is going to be heated, the nurture room needs to be insulated for thermal efficiency
  5. Has to have windows in for safe-guarding purposes as well as letting in lots of natural light to give a calming effect

We have therefore designed a building which hopefully meets the above brief. It has a certain degree of quirkiness to it and unlike our other outdoor classroom pod, it can be built on site as opposed to be delivered on the back of a transport truck.

There will be a few standard sizes to choose from and options for insulation as well. These buildings can also typically be built in a couple of days and sit on a timber sub-frame base
